I have about 12,500 miles on my 97 savage. The belt is just starting to show small cracks across the outside of the belt. About half the mileage was with the belt adjusted to midrange on the suzuki tool. I am now adjusting the belt so the suzuki tool just starts to compress, which is slightly out of tolerance. If you don't feel comfortable adjusting the belt outside the suzuki recommendation, why not compromise and adjust the belt to loose end of the tolerance band?
